The course is designed to help students develop appropriate working ethics with regard to professional translation, as well as acquire basic translation skills through continuous practice. The sessions in this semester will focus on the following areas: (1) general guidelines for translation (Chinese into English); (2) practical translating skills; (3) basic editing skills. An extensive array of examples and translation exercises will be arranged throughout this course so as to provide students with a clear overview of the ways in which a professional translator tackles texts in various styles. Please note that a diagnostic test will take place in the first session to assess students’ language proficiency and translation skills.
